What’s happening?

Summer is a great time to start eating seasonally. That means consuming fruits and vegetables that are naturally ripe and abundant in your region during a particular time of year. Doing this practice offers a multitude of benefits, impacting your health, the environment, and even your wallet.

Some benefits are:

Produce picked at its peak ripeness, as seasonal items typically are, has a more intense and satisfying flavor. Studies suggest that fruits and vegetables contain more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants when they are allowed to ripen naturally on their parent plant.

Eating seasonally encourages you to rotate your diet and experiment with a wider range of fruits and vegetables throughout the year.

Eating locally grown, seasonal produce significantly reduces the "food miles" associated with transportation. When food is in season, there's a greater abundance of it. This increased supply, combined with reduced transportation and storage costs, often leads to lower prices for consumers.

Eating seasonally can be a budget-friendly way to enjoy fresh, healthy food.
